I’ve been in Medellín, Colombia for about a week now. This city is beautiful, and the people here even more so! Our first week of ministry just FLEW by!

This week myself and several other squad mates helped our ministry host, Ciudad Refugio, put on a VBS for somewhere around 30 local niños. The kids were so precious and so eager to love on us. Even though they knew I could barely understand them, they kept coming back to talk to me and share things with me. Many of the kids also taught me new words in Spanish as well!

On the last day of VBS we took the kids to the roof of the building for water ballon games and to play in small kiddie pools. I ended up getting into a water ballon fight with a three year old who got very frustrated that the balloons he threw were not breaking as they hit me. Despite black skies and the crisp fall air, the kids had a blast getting wet…. until the wind picked up and they got cold.

Even though I had previously said I wasn’t going to get wet, I couldn’t help but hold some of the kids to help them get warm. The same three year old that was mad at me for throwing water balloons at him let me hold him and sing to him as other kids continued to play in the water. I sang the one song I know en Español, “No Hay Nadie Como Jesus//There Is No One Like Jesus”. I can now say I know how to say “want me to keep singing” in Spanish, so progress is being made to communicate!

I am very much looking forward to the rest of our time here in Medellín!
