“You’re going on a missions trip for 11 months? What will you be doing all that time?” A lot of friends and family have asked me that exact question, so I thought that I would take the time to address it.

In short the answer to that question is: I don’t know. I have an idea of what I might do, and what other World Racers have done in those countries, but for now, I’m not entirely sure what I will be doing. But here’s why that doesn’t matter. Bear with me here…

A few weeks ago God spoke to me without saying a word. I worked later than usual on a Thursday, so after working all day, I rushed straight to church to do a soundcheck for our mid-week service. I was tired, grumpy, and not feeling the greatest. On top of that I knew that I needed to do laundry when I got home, in preparation for the trip I was going on the next day. Needless to say, my mind was elsewhere and I honestly wasn’t going to church for the “right” reasons.

Flashing forward towards the end of our worship set, God starting moving through the building. In one way or another, every person in that sanctuary was touched by God. Before service started, I had thought about leaving church after worship to go do my laundry. But God had other plans! The worship team ended up staying on stage for the entire service (90 minutes). And God used me and each and every other member of the worship team to create an atmosphere where He could work.

Partway through the service I kicked off my shoes to get more comfortable. When service was being wrapped up I looked down at my feet and thought to myself “even in my taco socks”. Even though I stood on that stage feeling tired, hungry, and wearing the clothes that I’d been in all day–including my not-so-stage-appropriate taco socks–God still used me. That’s when it hit me.

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing or what you’re wearing–God can always work through you. And that is why it doesn’t matter where exactly I will be staying each month on the race or what I will be doing. We will go where God calls us to go and do what God calls us to do, because no matter where we are and what we’re doing God can still do mighty things through us.
