Fun facts:

  1. Myanmar is 1 of the 3 countries in the world that still has not adopted the metric system

  2. Shwedagon Pagoda is a temple covered in gold leaf and the top is covered in more than 4,500 diamonds, the biggest one being 72 carats

  3. Has the world’s finest Rubies

  4. No coins in the currency

  5. April starts the Burmese calendar

 

If I get to be a tourist I want to…

  1. Red mountain estate – bike ride to the vineyard, scenic views overlooking the vineyard and mountains, grapes are harvested February and March (when we will be there!) you can see the Pa-O tribeswomen harvesting grapes while in their traditional costume

  2. Bagan sunsets

  3. Ngapali Beach

 

Food I want to try:

  1. Burmese Naan

  2. Rice and Burmese curry – rice, a few curries, a few veggies, most common Burmese meal

  3. Khaosay Thote – noodles with chili sauce and cloves of garlic

  4. Deep fried stuffed tofu – stuffed with cabbage, chilis, and special sauce

  5. Gyin Thohk – pickled ginger mixed salad

  6. Stuffed pork skewer – marinated pork stuffed with mushrooms and green pepper
