Month eight!

Fun facts:

  1. Hinduism and Buddhism are the two main religions

  2. Cows are sacred, which means so is their poop, often times the home is cleaned with water and cow manure to clean it and bless it and the same time

  3. About 90% of marriages in Nepal are arranged and the bride and groom will not meet or see each other before getting married

  4. Half the population survives on $1 per person, per day

  5. Don’t touch anyones head, it is considered the most sacred part of the body

  6. March 3, 2014 – the day Nepal celebrated a full year of not poaching endangered animals (bengal tiger, snow leopard, red panda)

  7. $68 a year per person for healthcare

  8. 8 out of the 10 world’s highest mountains are found in Nepal

  9. The left hand must not be used for eating

 

If I get to be a tourist I want to…

  1. Mt. Everest (obviously)

  2. Chitwan National Park – dense forest and grassy plains are home to rare animals (one horned rhino, and bengal tigers)

  3. Asan Market – old bazaar known for old temples as trinkets, spices and clothing

  4. Manakamana Cable Cars – long ride over the Trisuli river, rice terraces, and small villages

  5. Fewa Lake – hike through the forest or paddle board in the lake looking at the Annapurna Himal

  6. Kupondole street art

 

Food I want to try:

  1. Thukpa – boiled, hand-pulled noodles, with shredded buffalo, and veggies

  2. Maas Ko Bara – light patties made from mashed lentils and masala, fried in mustard oil, an egg is cracked over the top and minced meat is added

  3. Keema Chatzmari – Nepal’s version of pizza, rice flour crepe most commonly topped with an egg, meat, cheese, and onions

  4. Momos – dumpling like dish typically filled with buffalo meat, steamed, fried, or served in curry sauce

  5. Lassi – sweet yogurt like drink
