John “the beloved”

Yesterday was our last day in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This month has been a great month, but challenging in the language barrier department. I have realized my high school Spanish is very rusty. I should have listened more! But yesterday I met three different people that spoke English and had real conversations with them. That’s more English than I have spoken all month outside of our squad and the Americans we have befriended.
We went shopping at a few local places. One store we stopped in we were immediately recognized as Americans as always. The guy running the store John started asking why we were here and what we were doing. We told him about the race and asked him about his faith. He believed in a higher power and has read the Bible. He knows all about Jesus and even spoke about Paul and the way he loves the Lord so much and wouldn’t back down from society pressures. John had all the head knowledge but it hadn’t got to his heart yet. We talked to him about John the beloved disciple and explained to him how much Jesus loves him and how we don’t want to leave him without telling him the truth. He was impressed that we didn’t just accept his views and that we cared enough to tell him what we believed to be the truth.
We left John with some things to think about for sure. We prayed that Jesus would show up in his life and he would truly see the truth and it would sink into his heart. I know that Jesus is pursuing  this man and I am so thankful to be able to have had this conversation with him. Pray for John and his friend Gene and all the precious people we have come in contact with this month and all year.

By the way I WILL BE HOME ON FRIDAY! As this journey comes to an end pray for my home and I can’t wait to see you all!
