This post has been in the works for a while and will continue to be in the works as God reveals to me what needs changed.

Doing door to door evangelism classes in the most dangerous slum in Costa Rica left me full of shame and determined to change.

1. Every family welcomed us into their home with a warm welcome and a seat. The homes (shacks by American standards) didn’t have much but they wanted to welcome us and they did so by offering their seats. What a testament! They truly put themselves last and served us who came to serve them. Shame on me for not inviting people into my home and offering them a seat.

2. The children in the evangelism classes put me to shame! I worked with them on memorizing Bible verses. These children starting at age 6 or 7 would recite at least 15 verses. The knowledge these children will retain and the foundation that is being built is impressive! Shame on me for not knowing more Bible verses.

Where we are staying in Nicaragua is completely opposite to Costa Rica. We are in a quiet country side town. This town has also brought shame to my attention.

3. Passionate worship. I love worship! But the churches here have a different kind of passion for their worship. They sing out and lift their praises to God without caring who is beside them. Nobody is afraid to sing a special and I have been challenged most services to do the same. I’m normally nervous and only want to sing a song I have all the words written down for. But the people here have left me full of shame because it doesn’t matter if you get all the words right, it only matters that you are giving God the highest praise. Shame on me for being nervous to praise God.
