This month my team is serving at Loyalty School, a bilingual Christian school for pre-K through 9th grade. The school was started about 7 years ago and now has 35 students.  The cost for students to attend is a very low compared to other bilingual schools, and allows for low-income families to send their children.

Loyalty School is located in the mountains, up a steep and rocky road that is difficult for most cars to come up.  Roger Flores, our host, drives the kids to and from school daily.    We have been able to hike some of these roads and it’s been fun to see familiar faces as we get to know the neighbors.

The students being to arrive at school at 6:50am (classes start at 7:10am).  Me and my teammate, Sam, are teaching all subjects for Pre-K and Kindergarten: Math, Science, Social Studies, Phonics and Reading, Bible, Art, Letters & Sounds and Fine Motor Skills.  Most subjects have textbooks in English, which help us with lesson planning.  Each of our other team members are with a different age group, teaching various subjects as well.  The school normally has only 4 teachers that do it all.

We led chapel for the students on Monday and focused on Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as God in Chris forgave you”.  We taught the kids a song about forgiveness and played a game with the bible verse to help them memorize it.  I loved it because it reminded me of Summerama (shout out to my RBC family).

Many of the kids have come from difficult home situations due to violence.  Our host and other locals told us that violence and gangs are very prevalent in Tegucigalpa and many of the kids have lost parents because of it.  Roger, along with other pastors in the area, have been meeting for the past two months to pray and seek a solution to this growing concern.

Prayer requests:

  • Pray for the local leaders and pastors in Tegucigalpa as they work to find solutions to subside violence and corruption.
  • Please pray for Roger and his family specifically, as they have dedicated their lives to this work.
  • Sponsorship for one child for one month is $15.  Please pray as they work to get more sponsors to support the students who cannot afford the tuition.
  • Please continue to pray for our health and safety.

The sunsets are amazing here… this picture is just a glimpse of what I get to experience.
