God is not surprised, but I am being surprised daily.

Team Joy Meets World has been at Loyalty School for a couple weeks now and it’s been great.  Teaching the younger students has definitely had its challenges, but has also been a lot of fun.  They are just too cute!  This entire week the students were supposed to have exams, but classes were unexpectedly cancelled today and for the rest of the week.

Honduras is now in rainy season.  We’ve had some flooding on the property and where we sleep, but Sunday and Monday night were especially rough.  On Monday morning we woke up to find the water gushing from some of the drain pipes.  The rains had been so strong, that a corner of the school’s playground had been broken down.  The foundation was supported by tires and clay, but the rushing water pushed all the support down the side of the mountain (into the swings) in a landslide.  The kids still arrived at school that morning and took their exams a scheduled, but once they left, we dug out the tires from the mud while it was till damp.  It was hard work flipping the tires and cleaning out the rocks (felt like Crossfit), but I am so grateful for the support of my team and how we encouraged one another.

Last night it rained consistently (I know this because we sleep under a tin roof.  Usually I’m a heavy sleeper, but I kept waking and praying for our protection).  This morning the water was gushing again and a tire staircase had been uprooted from the side of the mountain.  They made the call to cancel classes for the rest of the week because of the repairs and they are expecting more rain.

Our host, Roger, has been demonstrating incredible faith through all of this.  When talking about the mountain after the rains, he said sometimes God just does things differently.  His belief in God’s faithfulness, in the middle of what seemed hopeless, was so inspiring as we got to work shoveling out tires again.  We also helped to clear away brush and move a fence to help the water drains flow better.

Please pray:

As rain continues to fall, pray that the foundation of the school stands strong.  Pray that we wouldn’t get discouraged and that our labor would not be in vain.

A few other highlights from the past week:

  • We visited the college where our host’s sister attends and saw a play.  It was in Spanish, so I’m not quite sure what it was about, but I had fun.
  • We celebrated Lyndsay’s (my teammate’s) birthday.  She was a trooper and wore a shiny gold crown all day as we took public transportation around Tegucigalpa to the mall.
  • Our team took an adventure day last Saturday and visited another P Squad team in the Valley of Angels.  It was refreshing to spend time with our teammates and meet some other American missionaries along the way.
  • Last Sunday I got to see Shara and her team.  We hung out for a couple hours and I got to hear about her incredible experience so far.  Check out her blog for updates: sharaseetaram.theworldrace.org

Thank you so much for reading this and praying.  Even though these past few days have been unexpected, I can clearly see how God is providing and protecting us.
