Had she lied to us trying to get money out of us? This seems unlikely because she never once asked for anything. Did she decide to return to her husband? This was also an unlikely option given the look of determination on her face as she was leaving that day. The option that sent chills up all of our spines was her husband had found her and forced her to return. How could this be? We had gotten a taxi to take her from Busia to Kampala and from there put her on a bus to Rwanda.
We found out later that in fact he had followed her. When she was no longer being attended to by our taxi driver and Pastor Charles he took the opportunity to forcefully bring her back to Busia and keep her as his wife.
We have left Busia, but Pastor Charles let us know that she was seeking counsel from the elders of the church there. She is trying to figure out how to get out of this marriage safely. She has a restored hope and will not settle to live in this life of fear and oppression. We continue to pray for her and eagerly await any update from our Pastors in Busia.
