I am at home!

The thermometer on Bambi’s clock is reading 110 degrees. In our training they told us they have three seasons here in Thailand: hot, hotter and hottest. We are here during the hottest. Even the Thais are drenched in sweat and not even thinking about moving from 11ish until 3ish. Not only is it really hot, it is also very humid. The other night we headed out to the grocery store to get food for a few days and because there are so many of us, we piled into the back of a pick-up truck. We had to take a truck because the nearest grocery store is a 20-30 minute drive away. While driving down the road we were drenched by New Year’s celebrators. It was great fun and even cooled us down a bit. Yep, I am right at home, granted most of the time in Texas I have air conditioning to run into and am not outside working all day, but it is good to feel so much like home.

We are living with an amazing family who is doing great work in this village and has big vision for it. They are one of two Christian families in this entire village. Only 1% of Thailand’s entire population is Christian so this is not hugely surprising. Their vision is to see 150 people come to know the Lord in the next 5 years. They do a lot of ministry with the young people. Nam plays football (soccer if you will) with the village boys. They teach some of the kids English and a lot of times provide a meal for those who have not eaten that day. They also have cell group meetings on Wednesday nights and fellowship on Sundays.

While we are here we are supporting their ministry by building a saala (bamboo structure with grass roof and raised floor) and a wall on their property. We will also be doing a prayer walk, and teaching English to the local kids. While we expected to be in an orphanage and playing with kids all month long that is not where the lord has placed us. He has however given us several kids that come and hang out with us throughout the day. We play games with them and teach them English and they enjoy teaching us Thai.

I am very excited about this month and what God is going to do in our time here. Please pray for us and our contact.
