Guess what? We have no idea where we are sleeping tonight. It is 4:00pm and a train leaving for Vinkovci (the other city we are supposed to work in and there is a camping ground there…we think) in 45 minutes. So there is a group out finding internet and a group of us staying here at the train station to guard the bags because all 14 of us coming in with 14 very large backpacks and 14 smaller day packs can be overwhelming for just about any establishment. So they are looking to find any place here in Osijek that will house 14 missionaries free or really cheap. We have only a few leads on ministries that we can talk to and even fewer housing contacts oh and by the way we know little to nothing about this country.
The train ride from Budapest here was fabulous. We initially got on the wrong part of the train and just about as soon as we were settled the ticket man came around and ever so nicely let us know that if we actually wanted to get to Osijek and not be left in whatever city this car was dropped off in, we would need to move two more cars down. So 14 of us and our very large bags and our day packs as well as a few bags of food and a guitar moved cars. Once we got settled there we ended up needing to have a meeting to discuss our plan of attack upon arrival in Osijek so we had to move cars again in order to find one compartment that we could all fit into with our day packs. We had our meeting over lunch (sandwiches, chips and an apple), not a good idea. By the end of it we were all in desperate need of a nap having filled our bellies and filled one compartment with 7 peoples’ body heat, we were warm and full. We stumbled through to the end of the meeting and just about as soon as Joe, Matt, Tamica and Stacy left that compartment to settle into another, Dez, Lauren and I were passed out. Only to be interrupted at the border for passport check. I have now gone through 4 passport checks on trains and have yet to be awake for the beginning of any of them. One of these days I will remember that they do that.
