"He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane; I am a tree bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy. When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are and how great Your affections are for me…"
-How He Loves

I am reminded of this song on days like today. How can we wrap our hearts and minds around such a fierce love without having known the fury of a hurricane?  Tropical Storm Andrea is a teaser to the true fury of a hurricane, but the gusts of wind still take my breath away. I don't think I have actually seen a tree bending beneath the weight of the wind of a hurricane, other than on TV, and to try to imagine that magnitude of irresistible force as the love the Lord has for us is practically inconceivable for me.

I love storms like these. You never really know how bad they are until you are in the midst of them. All you can do is prepare for the worst and thank God for carrying us through. One minute could be calm and the next minute a tornado could appear and devastate your neighborhood.

I love hurricanes because they are the fiercest act of nature I have personally witnessed.  Every single time one comes along, I am reminded of how small and helpless I really am and how mighty and powerful God actually is. I am fully left at God's mercy to spare my life, the lives of my family and friends, the home I live in and the place I work.

We are always at God's mercy, but it's times like these I am more aware of this truth and the beauty of it all is that He still loves us so fiercely; it is nearly inconceivable!
