If there is one way to be overwhelmed in life, it is by walking down the dusty red-orange streets of an African village and realizing how many people could use some help. “Some help” is an understatement because many people could use more than just a handout. They need food. Water. Maybe a mattress. They need a job. They need an education. They need more than I feel like we can give, especially in the time we are here. They need something sustainable.
The great part of the Race is getting to partner with people who are here for the long run. Locals. Families who have moved into the neighborhood and are responding to some of these needs. We got to do that this month in Kigali, Rwanda. We partnered with Successful Christian Ministries and got to see the challenges they have before them in trying to attack some of these issues.
One of the main ways we got to serve SCM this month was through their recently established nursery school. These mini faces represent the gamut of kids in the area who struggle to have money to eat, let alone attend school. SCM gives these little ones a leg up by offering them a chance to attend morning class and have a meal of porridge before going home. It seems like a small thing, but these children would not be in any type of school otherwise. Some of them would not be fed as often otherwise.
In an effort to serve these kids, we want to let you know what SCM is doing to help them get ahead, and we want to invite you into the process. Pastor Venancia Abatoni heads up this ministry and also invites you to come and see the difference that is being made in these kids’ lives!

Yes, the battle is an uphill and many times overwhelming one, but there are people on the front lines fighting for the lives and futures of these children. In a country that is recovering but still throbbing from the affects of a devestating genocide, those fighting for the survival and restoration of the next generation deserve our attention.
Take a glance at the reality that millions of children are facing and how a handful are being impacted by those of us who can do something about it.
