Our off days this month wouldn’t have been half as interesting had we not spent them with our friend Mau and his family. He showed us some sides of Costa Rica we definitely wouldn’t have seen without him. Here’s a little taste of what it’s like to chill with the Ticos.

Getting Ready to tube down the river by Mau’s house. The girl on the left is Krisley, one of Mau’s daughters, and Mau is in the bright blue shirt in the background.

Chillin in a differnt river close to Volcano Arenal. It’s heated by the volcano! We were actually on our way to the hot springs, but we ran out of gas in the middle of the road, so we jumped in this river instead while Mau went to get  gas. Then we had coffee time in the rain beside their mircrobus and hopped back in the bus to go home right before the storm picked up. Most of the way home was uphill and we prayed almost the whole way because that microbus did NOT want to make it up the hills. It was a little intense, but we made it back finally in one piece. That day was one of the more adventurous to say the least.

Here is how we make coffee in Costa Rica. I am getting so spoiled here considering we have coffee time every afternoon before dinner. I thought coffee would for sure be lacking, but the Ticos love it, and there always seems to be a steady stream of it!

Mau’s oldest daughter, Yorginela. I love her name… It’s pronounced “Georginella”.

Mau took us to the beach to stay at his parents’ house. On the way we stopped to look over a bridge at these crocs. The water was pretty muddy, but we still saw a bunch hangin out like this.

“Check out this gentleman in the sunglasses!” A quote from Carson, the gentleman in the sunglasses.

Playa Jacó

We camped out at Mau’s parents’ during our beach trip. The next morning his dad took us riding. It was kind of unexpected but so fun!

Meet Hunter Young, one of our Squad leaders. He’s got one of the top 10 best laughs ever.

Baby turtles hatched when we were at the beach!

Kendra gettin shots of Jacó.

Da boyz.

Carlos, one of the guys who works at the farm…and Perdón, the neighbor’s dog.

José perfecting his piña juice recipe.

One of the biggest blessings at the farm…a washing machine.

Rocsta the dog. (It’s supposed to be Rockstar but in Tico talk it sounds different).

Another crazy night getting home. Everyone had to get out and push the car (except the girls…we got a break on this one). Sidenote I am holding a bag of coffee. Classic me.

Chelsea’s bday bash on the beach!!!

Mau and I jammin out…he has the egg shaker. I have on Dan’s hat because the ocean ate mine…as well as my glasses.

Not my best day of surfing…there were a few decent runs and the rest was a wash. Remind me not to try surfing during high tide at Jacó ever again.

Love those farm animals.

The man there is Mau’s dad. He lost an arm in an accident but still held his own with the horses…quite impressive.

Praise to Jesus for his safety and protection in all these adventures! Our time in Costa Rica is winding down, and we have a few days of ministry left. Pray my team goes into those days ready to finish strong. We need that last burst of energy before leaving our ministry site next week. I know the pics look great, but we are all being super challenged here and could use an extra dose of prayer!

Thanks and love y’all,
