6 days until I’m stateside, 8 days until I’ll be back in Nashville…

I figured I should at least get on here and let you all know where I am =) This month my team is working with team Deep Waters in Antigua, Guatemala.  The first week we were off almost all week due to schools being closed for Holy Week. Apparently people come from all over the world to be here for the festivities and it truly was a mad house!

Since Easter the town has calmed down and it is a beautiful place. We are volunteering at a local hospital where I spend a few hours with the elderly women every other day. I wasn’t too excited about it when I found out I was with them instead of the children, but it’s turned out to be a lot of fun! They are hilarious and so sweet.

We’ve also been teaching Christian values in many schools. It’s good and really makes you think when you’re standing in a room of students answering their questions about what love is and what that love looks like, when you’re talking to them about striving for excellence and how they should do the best that they can. As my teammates and I quickly go through our bullet points to get class done in 30 minutes, including translation, parts of the lesson gets stuck in my head. I recant how I have (and haven’t) always lived up to the things that we’re teaching them.  It’s funny how the stories of our mistakes are now used to explain our points and hopefully help them from making the same ones.

We’ve also had the opportunity this month to go on home visits with social workers and care for malnourished children in a rehabilitation home. It’s been a sweet month and a good ending to this journey.

Tomorrow all of O Squad will be travelling to Antigua. Final debrief is almost here, as hard as it is to believe. In less than one week we’ll be back in the U.S. and figuring out the next stages of life…
