Just a peak into my life for the past 3 weeks…
1. It rains…a lot.
2. The sun sets around 9:30 and rises between 3:30-4.
3. Women don’t do manual labor (or at least in our case)
4. The outhouse is a hole in the ground…it may or may not have a lock on it…or a door for that matter…
5. Laundry is done by hand, but not in the river because then you’ll kill the fish (which we were told as we finished laundry the first time)
6. Soup is served for almost every meal.
7. Tea and/or coffee is also served with every meal.
8. There are lots of mountains to hike.
9. Cold showers are a must…if you plan on showering.
10. Slugs like to hang out in the shower with you
11. A translator is needed to accomplish pretty much anything
12. Electricity is available a few hours a day
13. The night sky is breath taking
14. The scenery is beautiful
15. Going in to town is at least a half day adventure
16. Where I sleep changes…often, I’m averaging a new bed each week.
17. A rat might crawl in bed with you
18. If you’re sharing a bed with someone, it’s not as easy to pretend that there’s not a rat in your room
19. You can watch your teammates kill dinner (I’m sure this won’t be a single occasion)
20. Heavy enough flooding in another village just might come down the river and take out the bridge
New things I’ve come to enjoy- black coffee, sweet and unsweet tea, dark chocolate, cabbage, and dill pickles … apparently this is what happens when you can no longer have anything you want whenever you want…
