Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. ~James 4:10 (TNIV)
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. So then, if you know the good you ought to do and don’t so it, you sin. ~James 4:13-17 (TNIV)
The new campers arrived on Sunday and have been very open to us being a part of their camp!  For me, that has meant a good amount of time in the kitchen helping prep for meals.  It’s been good though and many humorous conversations have come out of it.  When you know a few words of Russian and the other person knows entry level English, well…conversations involve lots of laughter and hand gestures!  The people we are surrounded by are such a blessing and truly have a servant’s heart.
I was reading in James yesterday and ended up spending a good amount of time on James chapter 4.  Going on the World Race you know that change is going be one of the few constant things in your life.  A week into our time in Ukraine and we started talking about where we would be going in Romania. Before even leaving, people started asking me what I would be doing after I get back.  These are all things that go through my head, but why?  As it says in James 4:14, we don’t know what will happen tomorrow and should be focused on God’s will instead of our own plans.
I love how our time is compared to a mist that appears only for a short time.  I feel like that perfectly sums up my life right now.  Instead of focusing on all of the questions about what will come, we need to focus on what is.  My team has talked a lot about taking any opportunity that we can and making new opportunities to serve, build relationships, and ultimately tell other’s about God.  We’re only here for a short time (seriously, we leave Ukraine in 9 days!) and there’s no going back…
