Erica's First Hospital Visit

Let’s just say that this month hasn’t exactly gone the way my team thought it would.  After ending our month at Khaodee Children’s Home, we headed to Bangkok where we met up with the rest of the squad.  Some of these lovely—if mildly insane—folks were going to run a 10k to support Stacey’s nonprofit, the 27project, an organization that helps to provide funding for groups that fight human trafficking.  The run was actually a mighty success; most of the squad participated and several thousand dollars were raised.

The walk to the park, however, turned out to be a little more interesting than we thought it would be.  My teammate, Erica, stepped off a curb and onto a sign, which sliced a ten inch long-by-five inch wide gash in her thigh.  Needless to say, a hospital visit was definitely in order.  God is so good, though, and He definitely provided everything we needed, from English speaking doctors down to the right people to bring all of us to the hospital at various times over the next days.

Erica is amazing.  No joke.  From the moment I showed up in the hospital with Ella her stuffed elephant tucked under my arm, she had me in stitches.  The way she tells it, you’d think that the sign purposefully jumped off the curb and into her leg.   I wish I could record it to show you the story because it really is just so funny to hear her tell it. ( If you really want a play-by-play, you could check out Kenra’s retelling of it here.)

She missed Debrief entirely because she’s been cooped up in the hospital, but she’s never complained.  Neither she nor Kenra performed our team’s spoken word piece at Debrief because they were both in the hospital, but they encouraged Leanna, Caitlyn and me to go ahead with it anyway.  Kenra made the difficult decision to separate our team, leaving me and Erica behind so she could continue with medical care even though we didn’t know how long it would be before we were all together again.

The LORD continues to speak wisdom into Erica.  She’s the youngest gal on our squad of 50, but she speaks with such insight and wisdom that you’d think her the eldest.  I know that when she speaks, she’s coming with a word from the LORD.  Her patience, humor and wisdom make an otherwise difficult situation enjoyable.  I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have to go through this with.

Please continue to pray for swift healing for Erica’s leg, as well as for continued joy and grace over us both.  We’re relying on the joy of the LORD to be our strength as we wait.  We aren’t sure yet when we’ll be able to travel to Talitha Koum’s ministry site in Phnom Penh.  Hopefully we’ll be reunited with our team soon!

Thank you in advance for all your prayers and support.

Love,
Heather
