My Dear Friend,
There were four hundred of you and only seven of us. I get nervous around big crowds, especially, after all this time, big crowds of boys. You'd think that after nine months of being stared at, called "muzungu" (or "falang" or "gringo"), that I'd be used to coming into a new place and immediately making friends. I'm not.
But the LORD did something this time that made it easier to adjust:
He told me that the one I'd come to Uganda for was named "Philemon."
Then He did something even more amazing. He sat me down next to a tall, quiet boy furiously working on his math assignment and had us introduce ourselves. That was you.
Suddenly, the prophesied "Philemon" had a face.

And then you started talking. You started asking me questions. You started to come find me. I'd be standing in the middle of the morning devotions, feeling completely isolated, then turn and find you there. Suddenly, I didn't feel quite so alone in the crowds. I had a friend.
Honestly, it made all the difference in my life this month.
I want you to know that you are an incredible young man of God. All month, I've watched as you've quietly worshipped, honestly pursued Him and humbled yourself to His plan. I've listened to you–mature beyond 17 years old–talk about spiritual gifts. Prophesy and words of knowledge were not unknown to you. I've heard your skepticism and honest questioning.
I know that you will seek out anwers until you find them. Praise the LORD for making persistence and constancy the backbone of your character!
You, my friend, are becoming a Mighty Man of God. You bring unity. You're a peacemaker, peace bringer, peace lover. You are a mediator. You can speak and calm a heart or mind in turmoil. You have a purpose that is bigger than either of us can dream. Your presence brings comfort and strength.
I am so proud of the changes I've seen in you this month. You've grown so much in such a short amount of time. It's incredible.
Philemon, know that you are a good man. You have value that is immeasurable. Your heart is for the broken hearted, the lonely, the forgotten. Remember that you are YOU because who you are is necessary to the kingdom. Remember that you are a leader. Remember that you are strong because God is with you, for you, inside you.
Remember how loved you are. God loves you in the middle of every circumstance. Nothing will ever seperate you from that.
I will never forget you. You will never be far from my heart or prayers.
Love and Blessings,
Heather
