Yesterday morning we met in the small breezeway outside of our home for church. Since it was our last church service, John felt that it would be nice to spend our time together sharing what God had been teaching us. As I sat there I had no clue what to talk about. There was so much. How could I sum it up in words? I began to pray and ask God what He wanted me to share. The word selfless kept coming across my mind. What did He mean by that? As I continued to pray I saw a picture of Mommarita. It was then that I knew exactly what I was supposed to share.
Mommarita had a story that needed to be told. I witnessed a beautiful picture of selflessness. Mommarita was in tears because Holden, her grandson, had fallen and hit his head. He was fine, but she was worried. She blamed herself. It was then that I realized just how selfless she really was.
As I stood to share, I only got a few words out before tears began to fall from her eyes. I told the story about Holden and gave a few more examples. I spoke about her character and how she had shown me what it truly meant to put others before herself. She woke up every morning and she was a wife, a mom, a grandmother, a babysitter, a cook, and a friend. She never complained, never rejecting anyone’s request for her help. She gave up her time freely. She is a selfless woman of God!
Later that morning it was confirmed that God wanted me to share that. Someone came to me and told me about how the day before Mommarita had received some discouraging words and was really feeling down. She needed to hear words of encouragement and love. The words I spoke were not my words but words that God wanted to share with her. He wanted to remind her that she is loved and others notice the sacrifice she makes daily. God spoke to her at the moment that she needed it.
