The following is a conversation I had with one of my students today. For those that don’t know I work at a Preschool and teach 4-5 year olds. This conversation reminds me of how innocent children are in what they think and believe. It’s conversations like these that remind me why I love teaching and why I love children!
Child: Ms. Dodge if you could have any super power what would it be? I’d like to have super sonic speed to be super fast. What super power would you want?
Me: I think i’d like to have the ability to stop time because there never seems to be enough time in the day for me to get all the things on my to do list done.
Child: Would you like to read minds?
Me: Yeah that might be good too!
Child: Have you ever had a shooting star wish come true?
Me: I don’t know. I haven’t seen many shooting stars.
Child: I wish I could wish on a shooting star. (little pause) Do you think God wished on a shooting star? Because I do!
Me: What did he wish for?
Child: To read peoples minds
Me: Well I think it came true. Because he knows everything we ever plan to do.
Child: You know God lived on Earth.
Me: Yes he did. Where is he now?
Child: In the Sky
Me: Yeah you’re right he lives in Heaven.
Child: Did he move?
Me: Yeah I guess he moved.
Child: I think he forgot something
Me: Oh yeah…what did he forget?
Child: His computer
Me: What does he need his computer for?
Child: To know what everyone is thinking.
The conversation ended in laughing…which is one of my favorite things to do! So I forgot to mention that this happened outside on the playground. When we got back inside I HAD to write it down to share. I forgot what super power he wanted to have so I had to ask him. He then asked me what I was doing and I told him I was writing down what super power he wanted so I could remember. He then asked me if I was writing it down to wish on a wishing star.
