This month I am in the village of La Ermita right outside of Talanga, Honduras working with Heart of Christ ministry. This ministry does many different things including taking in girls who are pregnant from rape or incest, rescuing women/children from violence, taking care of special needs children, and getting families the assistance they need to feed their families and send them to school. It has been a true blessing to be a part of this ministry!
My team is here with 3 other teams this month. We rotate the type of ministry we do every 2 days so that everybody can get experience with everything.
We do construction/painting at our ministry site, go into the village to conduct surveys for a food program and pray for people, clean around the house and help take care of the children/babies and the special needs girls, and whatever else comes up that needs to be done.
On Saturday morning we went into the next village to conduct surveys for the food program and pray for people. We met 2 little girls not long after we got into the village and they came with us as we went house to house. As we’re walking around the village, I turned around and saw that we had gained many more children following us.
At one point I think I counted around 16 kids!
Some of the kids would come and go, but there were 3 girls and 3 boys that followed us everywhere we went.
One of the little boys that followed us was named Jesus. So we were literally physically and spiritually walking with Jesus!
It was a great reminder of how much the people in the villages really do pay attention to us and what we’re saying and how we’re acting. Of course I imagine it’s not everyday that 7 white people are walking around the village going house to house with a clipboard. That tends to breed a lot of curiosity…..
We couldn’t have had a better setup for our first month on the field. We have been very well taken care of here and that has made the transition so much easier!
Continue to be in prayer for this ministry. Specifically pray for financial support and staff to help keep this wonderful ministry going.
