When I signed up for the World Race, I originally applied for the newest “Expedition Route”. It travels throughout the 10/40 window- the most unreached area in the world. Sounds like the ultimate adventure, right? Because this route is new, I was entered into a pool of candidates so that the right people would be placed on the new team. We were asked to submit 2nd and 3rd choices in case we weren’t chosen for the “Expedition” and told that we would know where we were going no matter what by August 28th. I felt like I was learning a lesson about patience since I have waited all summer to know where I am going, but the lesson the Lord wanted me to learn was a bit different. My heart began stirring as I looked over other routes to put down as choice #2 and #3. Route 1 originally was my 4th choice, but as I prayed over all the routes, it began weighing on my heart. I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I called my sister, Lindsey, to talk through my thoughts and feelings about switching routes even before hearing back about the “Expedition Route.” Her words and advice changed how I thought about this adventure. She told me that maybe I was being asked to set aside all my plans and expectations, and to really let God be in control over every detail of the trip. After praying for a few more days, I knew in my heart that it was time for me to switch.
So, I have officially joined January 2016 Route 1! During the waiting period of finding out my route, the trip seemed like just an idea or a dream. Now that there are actual countries involved, reality has finally begun to set in- I am actually going on the World Race! With reality came excitement and a little anxiety. Excitement that I will get to see the world, meet many people from many cultures, learn about being a disciple and making disciples, and experiencing the mighty power of God and the big love He has for His children in an entirely new way. I am anxious about fundraising, gathering gear, getting shots, and saying “good-bye” to my family and friends for a year. But the excitement and the anxiety have pushed me to pray more fervently and the Lord has brought an incredible peace over my heart and my mind. He will prepare and provide for this trip in every way. My trust is in Him.
Since I now know the countries I will be traveling to (HOORAY!), I ask that you, my supporters, encouragers, and prayer warriors, begin to pray specifically for these countries and the squad with whom I will be traveling.
- Dominican Republic
- Haiti
- Costa Rica
- Panama
- South Africa
- Lesotho
- Mozambique
- Cambodia
- Thailand
- Malaysia
- Indonesia
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and pray for the people of these countries. I look forward to learning more about the people, the cultures, and the spiritual and physical needs of this route. I can’t wait to share with them the love of Jesus and bring His hope to the nations. In all things, He will be glorified.
Let the countdown begin: 20 weeks until launch!
“Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.”
Psalm 105:1
