The everything skit. The everything skit is a tool we will be using during school assembly’s in front of lots and lots of students. It is an example of how Jesus is always there, with open arms, through all of the distractions and struggles we go through in life. It begins and ends with a girl in the arms of Jesus but the in between has many representations of things in life that distract us from God. Pretty much everyone can relate to the everything skit in one way or another. If you haven’t seen or heard of it I strongly recommend watching it. It’s a powerful reminder of Jesus’ constant presence and how He pursues us all the time.
So, we each have a role and we’re split into two groups and each group will take turns performing at the assemblies.
The roles: Jesus, the girl, the boyfriend, the drunk friend, greed, vanity, and suicide. None of the roles are easy, none of them are necessarily fun, but they are teaching, pushing, and stretching us each in different ways.
The entire skit begins with Jesus breathing life into the girl and admiring her. He shows her His goodness and beautiful creation, and she is satisfied. In enters the boyfriend. He pushes Jesus away from her and distracts her from what she should truly be focused on. Then, there’s the drunk friend who stumbles in and continues to distract and take the focus away from Jesus. After that there’s greed, who places emphasis and importance on money. Vanity is next, putting worth and importance on perfect outward appearance. Finally, she struggles with depression and suicide.
She begins to run to Jesus after all of this and is stopped by the many distractions of the world. Jesus enters and protects her, He conquers all the sin, lifts her up, and give her a hug, showing that He is always there, seeking relationship with us. He is always there to pick us up again and will ALWAYS love us.
I’ve always had the funny role or the goofy role or the semi serious but mostly comical role. For this, I have the role of the girl and it is totally different. It preaches the gospel, shows real life struggles, and ultimately shows the amazing and loving truth of Jesus. It’s also uncomfortable. Uncomfortable to show things that are hard, uncomfortable to portray some things that I’ve never personally been through, uncomfortable to act out what may make others uncomfortable. But, in the uncomfortable I’m feeling stretched and pushed to do my absolute best in order to show the love of Jesus properly and in a way that will resonate with the students who see it. I can see and understand the ways that the Lord can use it in amazing ways, especially when taken to heart and taken seriously. I’m being taught that God can work through absolutely anything. I am being stretched and shown that God want to use lol of us in different ways and even if we feel like we messed up He can use it for His glory and righteousness.
