I used to find my identity in trivial things, such as…
-the achievements I had worked hard for,
-the hobbies that brought me joy,
-my teaching career,
-the house I owned,
-or my middle-class American social status.
Those are all great things!
But those things were never meant to define me.
Those things were never meant to hold my worth.
And the certainty of those things was never promised to me.
So when I decided to step aside from those things for a year, God began telling me who I really was.
I am no longer characterized by what I do or by what I have but by whose I am.
In Christ there is certainty, meaning, and fulfillment.
In Christ I find my identity.
In Christ I find my worth.
These are the truths that define me. This is who I am.
