- On April 17th 2013, I was accepted on the Race.
- Today is June 9th, 2013, only two months after my interview, and I am 50% funded!!!
- Only God can do that.
The Bible in 90 Days
Last week, I challenged my squad to participate in a 90 Day Bible Plan during these three months prior to launch. God called me to it, and I knew I would want (need) some accountability and encouragement along the way. I prayed for God to recruit one or two squad mates who would be willing to participate, and He gave me half the squad. He is such an over-achiever. I guess I get it honestly
My prayer prior to beginning the 90 Day Plan was for God to renew in me a hunger for His Word. I had started the One Year Bible in the Spring of last year and had yet to complete it, but I knew that a fresh encounter and understanding of the Word would be so important during my 11 months on the field. This morning was day 3. I woke up at 5:59 (one minute before my alarm) and my first thought was, I can't wait to get out of this bed, brew some coffee, and see what the Lord has to say to me today! A hunger, He gave.
When I read, I expect God to speak to me. I read with the mindset that there's not one thing in that giant Book that He didn't put there on purpose. I remember when I was a fresh young tot of a believer, thinking I'd just skip over the genealogies and geographies and the old, irrelevant laws and protocols. But now, instead of taking a "skim over" approach, I take a "bigger picture" approach. I delight in the genealogies because it shows me that God knows us all by name and had an immaculate plan from the very beginning to birth a Son through a particular lineage. I embrace the geographies because people today are still affected by the history that occurred in the Biblical time period and nations were formed out of promises of God. I respect the old law because my Holy God deserves that kind of reverence, and I've been saved by the One who was able to fulfill it.
James 4:8 tells us that if we come near to God, He will come near to us. Within three days of feasting on His Word, I have felt Him draw nearer to me than ever before. I can't wait to see what all He'll teach me in the next 87 days!!
