Welcome to the start of my 3 Things series.
For the next month or so, I’ll be posting some great things I’ve been learning while on the Race.
I’ll kick it off with one of my favorite topics — LIFE.
3 Things I’ve learned about LIFE from the Race
1) Every culture has something good and beautiful to share with us. The biggest mistake we can make as overseas missionaries, humanitarians or entrepreneurs is to “Americanize” the rest of the world, yet this is a problem and a mindset that I’ve encountered many times as a missionary. It is imperative that we learn to appreciate where people have come from, what they’ve overcome, and what they value. There is always a trade to be made: Offer some good, adopt some good.
2) People everywhere long to be in awe of something greater than themselves. Whether we realize it or not, we are all looking for someone or something to ascribe worth to–to worship. Deep down, we know that when the world is centered around us as human beings, something is missing…. something feels wrong. When we are the plot, the meaning, and the purpose of life, we are painfully dissatisfied and mistakenly glorified.
3) Most of the big decisions I’ll be making in life are less crucial than I once thought them to be. Traveling the world has made me realize that only a few things in life are actually permanent. I’ve been stuck in the mindset that I’ve got to hold the same job until retirement and live in the same city until I die. But getting outside of my Alabama bubble, I’ve learned that this doesn’t have to be the case. There is so much beauty out there. So many things to experience, to discover, to enjoy! I guess I’m just learning to go with the flow and to be okay (and excited by) the unknown.
Tune in for more from my 3 Things series!
