In talking to different people about The World Race, I have often got the question: “What types of things will you actually be doing?” “What will your days look like?”

Well, I finally have an answer for you! Woooooo.

With that, I’d love to give you a sneak peak into month 1 and what my team and I will be doing.

About a week ago my team and I got an email with our placement for our first month on the race in Guatemala. I had heard what the three different locations would be and could not wait to see where the Lord had placed us for our first month.

In opening the email and reading the description of what we would be doing I was immediately overwhelmed. Overwhelmed with joy and excitement as tears filled my eyes.

Tears filled my eyes because in this first assignment the Lord had answered a sweet prayer, a small prayer that one might even forget after praying it. But, God heard and he remembered.

I have a vivid memory of sitting on a bus riding through Guatemala, windows down, sun shining, while praying and thinking about what the Lord had for me in this life. What did he want me to do? Where did he want me to go? All, I knew was that my dream was to work at an orphanage and on that bus I thought to myself, why not go after that dream? But, I had no idea how that dream could ever become a reality.

When I was in Guatemala, I prayed along with a sweet friend from home that I would be able to visit an orphanage. In the 2 1/2 weeks that I was there, the opportunity did not present itself.

Now almost one year later, I see that God saw me. He saw me sitting on that bus filled with joy thinking about the possibly of working in an orphanage someday. He heard those prayers I prayed even if they were small.

He heard them, and he answered. Now, almost one year later, he is not only giving me the opportunity to visit an orphanage but to live/work in one for a WHOLE month.

In our first month we will be living at Los Gozosos an orphanage and school for children with disabilities.

According to our ministry host here are a few things we could possibly be doing:

  • Caring for and loving on the kids during their normal routine
  • Participating in hour long prayer sessions with the whole Los Gozosos team
  • Neighborhood evangelism
  • Saturday Kids Club
  • School Graduations (their school year ends in October)
  • Sleeping out in our tents with the children
  • Taking the children on adventures on our days off
  • Preaching at the local church

I am sure that this is not all we will be doing, or even exactly what we will be doing because ministry changes.  But, I wanted to let you in and give you a better idea of what this first month could look like and also remind you that God does answer even small prayers that we may have forgotten we even prayed.

Our Lord remembers, and he is GOOD.
