The song “Do it Again” by Elevation Worship perfectly describes the past 13 days of my life. A line from the song says, “I’ve seen you move, you move the mountains and I believe I’ll see you do it again. You’ve made a way when there was no way and I believe I’ll see you do it again.”
In committing to The World Race just three weeks prior to training camp, it felt like I would have to scale mountains in order to even be eligible to participate.
Mountain #1 Raising $5,000.00 in less than three weeks
Mountain #2 Raising the money while working an all-encompassing job at a summer camp
Mountain #3 Finding someone to buy my car so I could fly straight from my current job in New York to Georgia in order to get to training camp on time
WOWZA
Now, let me bring into a few ways God has been working in the midst of these mountains
Mountain #1
In thinking about fundraising $5000.00 in less than three weeks, perspective is HUGE. Looking at this mountain from a human perspective it sounds extremely unlikely, but when looking at from the perspective of who God is it seems extremely realistic. When I stare at this mountain remembering how big and mighty our God is with access to ALL resources I can’t help but think; how could God not bring in a measly $5000.00 in three weeks time? If anyone is able it is he!
In the past 13 days I have seen him bring in money in such unexpected and awesome ways. He has definitely been moving in the hearts of many.
Here are a few of things I’ve seen:
- On Tuesday of that week a fellow staff member donated her entire two-week paycheck to support me as soon as she received it. She didn’t hold onto it for more than a few seconds, she simply gave generously and without hesitation. When this happened I immediately thought, only God could inspire this.
- On Wednesday that week I got an email notification that a girl that I have not talked to since I graduated college (over a year and a half ago) donated money. WHAT? In this I knew God was moving in the hearts of those that I hadn’t even reached out to or expected to support me.
- On Friday of that week an offering was taken to support me, without me even knowing it. At the end of each week of camp the campers are given a chance to donate any of the extra money they did not spend during the week to a scholarship fund that allows other campers to come to camp. This week the camp Director and Business Manager (both people who I have close relationships with) decided to take an offering to support me instead. The results were incredible! They campers gave more than they had any other week this summer. The coolest part to me was that I was as not even on camp property while this happened. God showed me through this that fundraising has nothing to do with me and has everything to do with him. I did not even need to be present for God to bring in support. I did not have to present my case and explain to others why I wanted to go. God was simply going to do what he had planned with or without me.
Even though, I cannot say that in the last 13 days my faith has been unfading or always confident that the Lord will provide. I cannot say that I have always been patient in trusting in his timing. I cannot say that I have spent enough time devoted to reaching out to others. I cannot say that my work is enough or anything I do is enough.
But I can say that I am positive that HE is working. I can say that HE has confirmed time and time again that this is what he wants me to do. I can say that HE has moved many mountains in the past 13 days and has already brought in $3,933.19. It has almost been overwhelming at times to see what HE is doing.
In reflecting on these things I am more confident that GOD will inspire others to give generously and boldly. I am more confident that GOD will choose whom he wants to support and whom he doesn’t. And I am more confident that GOD will bring in the funds he has planned with or without me.
This is comforting and allows me to rest in the fact that God has this all in his hands. This does not mean that I plan to sit back and refrain from reaching out to others and sharing about what I believe God has placed on my heart to do in the next chapter in my life. But, I know that in this, I can rest because MY God holds it all and has control over it all.
So, Yes Mountains can be intimidating, but with eyes fixed on God we remember that he has moved mountains in the past and he surely can move them again.
In my next blog post I will share about how the other two mountains and how God has moved in the midst of them!
Thank you so much for taking time to read this
