I have found out that one of my passions in life is to not only observe the needs of others, but to help fulfill them. I try to make an intentional point to live this out in the States by way of connecting people and friends together, giving of my time, encouraging and coaching when needed, providing food, shelter, and love to those in need, and assisting others in their pursuit of God and their dreams.

Within the context of the Race, I have tried to do the same within my team, squad, and the people we have been blessed to partner with and serve in 4 continents and 9 countries as of date.

I was thoroughly altered by this through helping out with the most basic of physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of a Kenyan widow and her family as well as with two teenage orphan girls when my team and I resided in Isababania.

Now, as I call Viile Tecii home in the Transylvanian region of Romania, I see needs too often ignored or avoided, but not on my watch. I have made it a point to not just 'see a need,' but fill it. Each time I do, I know that I am beign faithful with the time and (sometime) the talents I have been given. Each time I am 'rewarded,' be it from a hug (and sometimes a kiss) from a Babushka after I have assisted in delivering milk; a smile from a 6-year old after an impromptu English grammar class in a vineyard; a joy that radiates from the Romani children after I've played with them, taking time out of my schedule; new friendships formed while painting the church two doors down; a complement on my canning skills from the women that comprise my contact's family; a bond and confidence formed between neighbors and I after a photo shoot and prayers; and the list goes on…

But the point is: Do you see a need? I honestly don't alwasys know how to respond to the needs around me. I don't always run full steam ahead. I don't always know what to day. I don't always take the time to help others. I sometimes hesitate and doubt myself.

But.

But…whenever I 'get over' myself and my insecurities, I am happy that I did. The rewards of helping others, the joy more than anything, has been the main highlight of my life this year—not to mention my life, pre-Race. I look forward it to being a part of my life post-Race. Not just for my own self, but for you and the people you are surrounded by and love. It WILL make a world of a difference, no matter what part of the world you reside in.
