Today we had no power and no water. Usually when we run out of water we just go refill the tank. But today the power was out and we need power to fill the tank so we had no power and no water. That means no light which is an easy fix because we have candles and headlamps. No water means no showers, no flushing toilets, and no dish washing. It happened to be our Sabbath on this day so we were staying at the team house all day. As the day went on the dishes in the kitchen began to pile up. It was a mess. We found ourselves running out of utensils and plates. As dinner got closer we thought… what are we going to do?? What pots will we use to cook? What plates will we eat on and what utensils will we eat with? Although we didn’t have the only two things that we “needed,” we still had everything we needed. We got to spend the whole day with Jesus! Even without power and water, we were still filled up with His love and grace and glory! The day felt as though it was missing nothing. In the late afternoon we remembered that there was a well at the care point located at our team house that we could get water from. Thus prompting everyone to grab empty water jugs and fill them so we could wash dishes and flush toilets. Jesus always provides a way out. And even when it seem like all we “need” is taken away, we still have everything that we need because God sustains us. When we have nothing, we still have everything.
Yes, I understand that this sounds dramatic. It really wasn’t a big deal, this has happened before. But today when we were washing dishes and talking we really realized that even when we don’t have basic necessities, we are reminded that God can and will sustain us. We need nothing but Him and can rely solely on Him for provision. He knows what we need. We don’t need power, we don’t need running water. All we really need in this world is Him. Thank you Jesus for teaching us more about You today!
Remember this – a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
