Hey Friends! If you know me at home, you know I love to cook. When I have a long day at work my first instinct is to research new/delicious/complicated recipes, go straight to the store on the way home and spend the rest of the evening in the kitchen cooking, sampling and eating. I have had so much fun cooking in every country of the race so far, either because there was no other option or because someone on the squad asks our hosts for the opportunity! Every kitchen and country is different and it is an intriguing project/adventure/riddle to turn local ingredients into something ranging from edible to delicious!
In Madagascar we had wonderful hosts with a kitchen staff who prepared every meal, but when friends (see below) asked for the chance to cook dinner they agreed! Craving some American cuisine, we wrote an ingredient list for taco soup with cilantro rice and guacamole (Madagascar has incredible avocados) and some Macaroni n Cheese. Although international communication is always a bit of a challenge, and they insisted on doing the shopping for us, we made it work!
Food is also my love language. I make food for people to tell them I love them, like when I am able to cook for my team or my squad or our hosts!! And I respond really really well to others giving me food. (This is a subtle plug for someone to send me some cookies from home – or just Venmo some $$ for the incredible range of Oreo products that are found in the local corner shop of every country in the World @WorldRacerReid K Thanks :):)

In this video made by the beautiful, talented, gorgeous Haley Wubs aka the Wubster, you can see the joy and process of cooking for 60 people (all squad month plus staff) in a cauldron over a wood fire in an outdoor kitchen in Madagascar. The cute kitchen ladies periodically peered in and giggled at us so when the food was finally ready we insisted they make their way through the line first along with our wonderful friends and translators.
Several of them asked for the recipe later. Success.
