Indonesia: Life Interrupted – Part 1
I quit my job, moved out of my apartment, gave away my possessions, and left my family, friends and all the comforts of my life to go on an 11 month mission trip. This is the definition of Life Interrupted.
I am now in month 1 of The World Race – and interruption has become my new norm.
It started with a series of long flights – and then a 30 hour bus ride from Jakarta to Bali, which basically spans the entire country of Indonesia.
I was actually dreading the bus ride, thinking about how it was going to be so exhausting and even a waste of precious time. But somewhere along the trip, I thought, “What if God took me out of the way to take me on His way? What if He wanted me to see a beautiful Indonesian sunrise? What if He wanted me to see into the lives of the people of this beautiful nation so that I could see them for who they are and how God made them?”
That is what happens when life is interrupted by God.
It doesn’t look like what we expect. It might not be the most logical. And it might take you on a journey that is far from home, nothing like we had planned, and even hard at times. However, when we let God interrupt our lives, OH THE POSSIBILITIES!
From the bus ride alone, I realized that Time is Ministry, not Time is Money.
While I am on a mission to do ministry in the name of Jesus – God also wants to do Ministry in Me, and what a humbling thought that is…what an interruption in my way of thinking.
Looking forward to sharing more interruptible Indonesian moments with you on this journey!
“But he knows the way that I take;
when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.
My foot has held fast to his steps;
I have kept his way and have not turned aside.
I have not departed from the commandment of his lips;
I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.”
Job 23: 10-12
