“23 years ago today my beautiful daughter Hannah was born. Today was the first time in 23 years that I didn’t know if I would get to talk to her, but thanks to technology and WhatsApp I was able to see her face and hear her voice (after numerous failed attempts by her). What joy! What joy to sing to her the traditional birthday song and the special birthday rap from elementary school. And her face – it had a big ol’ smile that seemed to radiate from the screen. And it was in that moment, I realized that as her mom this was probably her best birthday ever. Her hosts in El Salvador got a Dora pinata for her. Her teammates – Niki,Lizzy, Julia, and McKenzie did and gave special things for her throughout the day. But most importantly, I had a fresh realization that God has answered my deepest prayer for her – that she have a personal relationship with Jesus and share His love with others. I think back on the winding road she’s had to travel and the many mistakes in parenting, and I am in awe of God’s faithfulness and goodness. Hannah and her team have learned to be bold for Jesus. They are in their 20s, and I am learning from them at the ripe old age of 59! How thankful I am to know my baby girl has surrendered her life to God. I’m supposed to be giving her presents on her birthday, but she’s given me the best present ever! Happy Birthday, cutie patootie. I love you!!” – My momma
