Ministry has been great. From everyday things like walking to school in the blazing sun to the one time things like chess tournaments and visiting the local maternity center, I’ve been seeing God working in this city, in this ministry, in my teammates, and myself.
Sometimes it really just blows my mind how amazing God is. Like I know that he is the Infinite of Infinite, but knowing that he has an unique plan for every individual that has ever been created is so hard to think about. I can hardly remember what cards everyone has when we play a game of coup!
This morning us ladies had the opportunity to go to the local maternity center and pass out donations of clothing and blankets to the expectant mothers, and the three of us were surprised to see what a clean facility has been built here. The head mistress was talking about how many less deaths they’ve seen since it has been in operation, and I definitely believe it. It was clean and open and peaceful there. Its a place I would love to work at after the Race.
Since I haven’t really talked about our ministry here much, I’m just going to give you the basic outline of a school day here.
Wake up at six and have a quiet time on the back balcony.
Breakfast at 7… Usually eggs and tortillas and coffee prepared by the amazing, God sent, Rosa.
At 7:40 we leave for our mile walk to the school
Our days at the school are split into two parts, the morning group and the afternoon group, as the center is in addition to their formal schooling, they have a half day of both.
So first off is a devotional, either with the boys on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, or with just our team and our ministry host on the other days.
Then depending on if its morning or afternoon, the boys have cycles of classes that include English (taught by the beautiful Katie and Lindsay) and Bible, and then depending on the day they also have sports, chess, and arts and crafts. In addition to all of those great activities, the boys also eat meals at the school. Our host was telling us that when the boys are enrolled at the beginning of the year they are given a physical and then another after a month or so given another. She said that sometimes the boys will gain 20 lbs. over that time!!! Its amazing the things they are doing here, to train the boys and give them ways to get good jobs with reliable income.
Its so weird to only be able to say that we have seven months left on the Race. Like exactly where did the time go?? Everyday i’m amazed by this opportunity I’ve been given, and I can honestly say that it is 100% worth every bit of stress. Like seriously. I’m traveling the world, watching God work, falling in love with his people, getting work experience, seeing beautiful scenery, and undergoing some crazy changes in my faith.
Thank you all for making it possible for my team and I to be here!! As always, your prayers are deeply coveted and appreciated. A few in specific are for the health of my team, for our squad as team changes are coming up at the end of next week, and for God to continue to be glorified in the things we are doing.
Love you!
Hannah
Two quick things.
One is that I would really love some mail…while its not really possible for me to get physical mail, I can totally get emails ([email protected]) or FB/instagram messages, or if you really want to send me a handwritten letter, you can send it to my house and my mo will scan it and email it to me. I miss you all so much and would love to hear from you!!
The second thing is that we are currently still going to Ethiopia after our time here is done. Adventures is keeping a very close eye on the situation there, and have been in contact with ministry hosts and the regional director, and will remain so until the situation either clears up or gets worse, in which case we will be switched to another country. Thank you for your concern on the subject!
