Hola de Costa Rica!
We have been here four days, but already it seems like forever. Its beautiful here, not only in the amazing scenery and thunderstorms we get every afternoon, but the people we are working with have such a heart for the Lord and the work he is doing here.
We are working with Zoe International Christian School, a private school for K-9th graders. I have the privilege of being the assistant teacher in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade math and science. (side note, 1st and 2nd grades have class rotations together, as do 4th and 6th since there aren’t any 5th graders) And I’m so stinking excited about this I’m gonna put it in all caps: STARTING ON MONDAY A SQUAMATE AND I ARE TEACHING SCIENCE FOR 1ST AND 2ND GRADES!! Like you wouldn’t believe how excited I am…I mean maybe since I put it in all caps you can see it a little? 😉 So I’ll let you know how that goes.
So many things have happened in the last couple days, from classes with my crazy kids to spontaneous soccer games, trying new foods, and making lots of friends.
For instance, there’s this adorable little coffee shop and bakery literally just a couple steps up the street. (I’ve already been twice) We’ve gone after school for a pick me up or one day just the ladies on my team went for some much needed girl talk. I foresee many more trips in the future.
Also, my first and second graders are obsessed with ninja. (the game) I don’t know how many times we have played, sometimes in the middle of a class!! Let me tell you, schools here are definitely structured different than American schools. Like 180 degrees different.
Today is Costa Rica’s independence day, so yesterday was a half day of school, and then last night the kids at Zoe put on a production for their parents and us. They sang some songs and danced and were pretty much adorable. (I hope to add some pictures or videos later!) Today theres no school, so all of us and some of our Costa Rican friends took the public bus to Heredia and watched the parades, got pizza and ice cream, and had lots of fun.
Tomorrow there are classes again, and I’m really not sure what we will be doing on Saturday. I think on the first day they said something about doing evangelism in the park, but to be perfectly frank, I was sleep deprived and I might have imagined that. And then Sunday will be church and I’m sure they will have other things for us to do too.
Costa Rica is wonderful, and so far has been the most amazing place ever! Hopefully my next post will be slightly more coherent and easier to read, but thank you for sticking with me!
Love,
Hannah
