Let’s cut the funny business and get right down to the nitty gritty.
New Year’s Resolutions are hard for people to maintain…
Whether it’s going to the gym every day, whether it’s eating healthy, or whether it’s reading more books, we all know that new things are hard to maintain when we have to force ourselves to do something we know we should have been doing for the last year.
SO…what I have for ya’ll is a list of New Year’s Resolutions that I find won’t help change your weight, or your health, or your knowledge, BUT it can surely help change your character:)
I would like to challenge you to go out of your comfort zone. Instead of focusing so much on our outward appearances (which is almost equally important because our bodies are God’s temple after all) I challenge you guys to focus on your inward perspective.
Here are 10 New Year’s Resolutions to make you a stronger woman/man of Christ (or, just a downright good Samaritan):
- Make at least 1 person smile every day! Smile at people, they love it. Real crowd pleaser
- Do some volunteer work, soup kitchens are so grateful for your help and generosity. God calls us to help others in need!!
- Call/email/text/facebook message/Insta message/slide into the DM’s of a friend or family member or whatever you young kids do these days. Ask them how their day is. ACTUALLY be interested in their accomplishments or their struggles. Show them you care.
- Ask people how you can be praying for them. This is a real good one people. Even if someone doesn’t know God, everyone has something in their life they need prayer for. A lil Jesus lovin’ ain’t hurt nobody.
- Put down your phone and pick up a bible. If your only bible is on your phone, talk to me, I have plenty to give out. Jesus told me that your eyeballs will burn out of your head if you stare at your phone for too long. It’s true.
- Watch the sun rise…or sunset more often. Whatever floats your boat. Jesus paints the sky for us every morning and every night. Sit outside on the porch with a nice cup of coffee and enjoy it for a second!
- Forgive at least one person that you have been holding that grudge against. Or maybe you just don’t want to talk to them because they hurt you or made you feel unloved. Forgiveness not only helps the other person, but it helps you too.
- Get involved! Lord knows I need this one. Join a life group. Be an usher/greeter for your church. Join a church!!! If you don’t attend a church, you are missing out on the party of the week, if you are afraid to join a church, talk to me!!
- Buy a journal…and actually write in it. For all you people out there that hate writing, look back to resolution 1 because if you start writing in a journal you will make me smile. But on a real note, thoughts and feelings can become an important guide to your spiritual walk, it’s amazing to see how far you have come throughout the years!
10. MAKE TIME. MAKE TIME. MAKE TIME. I fall short of this one as well. Far too often we come up with excuses on excuses of why we can’t do something. Quit it. Make time for your friends. Make time for your spouse. Make time for your family. Make time for God. Make time to pray. Make time to read your bible. I could go on and on.
Let’s make this year about changing ourselves on the inside. Ya never know, your change could make way for someone else’s change.

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come; The old has gone, the new is here!
