Here in Guatemala alcoholism is a big problem. Since being here I have seen so much pain and brokenness that has been caused by alcohol.
A few weeks ago we met a man who was an alcoholic. He was super drunk when we met him so there was not much we could do in the moment. We saw him again about a week later and once again he was drunk. Last Thursday we were praying and asking the lord where we should go and my teammate Lucy got a picture of him. None of us thought that we were going to find him but we decided that if we saw him we would stop and talk to him. We walked maybe 20 feet and he was just sitting there in a friends backyard. He came over to us but this time it was different. He was sober and going through extreme withdrawals. We were given the opportunity to tell him that the void he was trying to fill was never going to be completely filled by alcohol or any other desires of the flesh. We told him the good news of the gospel and how Jesus can fill that hole in our lives. After talking to him for a while, he recommitted his life to Christ!
This man is such a testimony to how much love the Lord has for us. No matter how far we fall away from Him, He will always come after us! He will always fill us up!
