Thank you so much for all the questions about the world race!! If you have any other questions that I didn’t answer in my blog, feel free to put them in the comment section and I’ll answer them there!!
What’s the best part of the world race?
I think that the best part is being constantly surrounded by people who love you and want to see you grow.
How do you pack in just a backpack for 9 months?
Oh man I still haven’t figured this one out. It’s a lot of finding clothes that will go with anything and also realizing that you don’t need everything that you want.
What’s it like living with 50 people all the time?
It can definitely be hard at time. You can literally never be alone. I am extremely extroverted so I love it because there is always someone to hang out.
What was thanksgiving like on the race?
For thanksgiving we had the day off from ministry. I spent a lot of time talking to family back home on that day. We all had thanksgiving lunch together. Each team brought different sides and we all had a big feast together! It was a lot different than thanksgiving at home but it was full of so much love and joy and there is no other way I would have wanted it!
What has been the hardest part?
The hardest part has probably been all the growth that I have been going through. Even though this has been one of the hardest thing it has been by far the most rewarding!
Thoughts on papas fritas?
One of God’s greatest creations.
Do you feel like this trip is for you or for others?
I think the world race is for anyone who wants to grow in their relationship with the Lord and wants to step out and try new things!
Has volleyball helped you in anyways?
Volleyball helped me to learn a lot of discipline which has helped me here!
What food do you eat?
We eat a mix of Guatemalan food and American food. At the base we have people who cook breakfast and dinner for us Monday-Friday. For lunch everyday we have different types of sandwiches. On the weekends we are on our own for food. We typically go to the grocery store and get food to make for our whole team.
How do you get places?
Chicken busses!! It’s the Guatemalan form of public transportation. It’s like a school bus but they put 3 times the amount of people that should be on it on all at the same time
What is your favorite thing you’ve eaten?
Queso fresca with tortillas! Literally the greatest food I’ve ever eaten!
What is the coolest thing you have done?
A few weeks ago I got to ride a horse up a volcano and roast marshmallows over the molten rock. It was so cool to just see the beauty in Gods creation and spend time with my best friends doing it!!
What has been your favorite day on the race?
This one is really hard because there have been a lot of amazing day but one that stands out to me is one day at ministry we spent the day playing baseball, flying kites, and climbing trees! It was such a simple day but it was full of so much joy!!
What is one thing the Lord has been teaching you?
I’ve learned a lot about what it looks like to be free. For a long time there were a lot of things I was holding onto. I have learned how to give all those things to God and find freedom from those things!
