Ever since I was a little girl I have dreamed about coming to Africa. I don’t really know why but I always knew that one day I would go and see it. I had no idea that I would be here now.
When I was applying for the race I knew that whatever route I picked had to have Africa on it. I had no idea what Swaziland was but I knew it was in Africa. This is our last country so I’ve been waiting for and anticipating these three months for a long time.
We’ve been here in Swaziland for a month now. And I absolutely love it here. There is something special about this place that I haven’t felt in the other three places I’ve been. The life here is so simple but it feels right. I see him in everything here. It’s one of the most beautiful places and I see Jesus in the most beautiful sunsets and in the mountains that remind me of home.
Everyday we work at a care point. It’s a place that AIM has raised up leaders in to invest in their own community and gain leadership skills. Children come to these care points everyday to be fed and just hang out with the other kids. I love our days here. There’s not a day where the kids aren’t excited for whatever we’re doing that day. Usually we serve them food, teach them a lesson on a bible story and play games with them. It’s such a fun time. after we got in the van to leave the very first day, I already knew it was going to be a hard goodbye. Everyday when we get in the van to leave, we get a hug from every kid and they cheer and sing to us as we drive away.
I’m learning how sometimes sharing the love of Jesus can be done in some of the simplest ways. It doesn’t always have to be done in some extravagant way. It’s simply teaching kids how to play kickball for the first time and cheering like crazy. It’s giving these same kids hugs day after day who are just so hungry for love. Days are usually the same everyday and it’s not always about seeing the fruit of our work. But the Lord is moving big in Swazi and I’m so happy I get to be a small part of it.
