“Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting:
“Hallelujah!
For our Lord God Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and be glad
and give him glory!
For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready.
Fine linen, bright and clean,
was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.)”
Revelation 19:6-8
This past week we’ve talked a lot about a bridegroom and his bride. I think it is the most beautiful thing. Traditionally in a Jewish wedding the bridegroom goes away for a year with his father, who pays a big price for the bride. And the bride is left to prepare and get ready. But, she never knows when the bridegroom will return, she just has to be ready.
In all of this I couldn’t help but think of the movie, 27 dresses. She has been in so many weddings and seen so many people get married. But through all the weddings, she says her favorite part is watching the grooms face as his bride walks down the aisle. The groom can’t wait for his bride. The bride spends the whole day getting ready and preparing for this moment. The moment of being face to face with her groom.
We’re all in this same stage of preparation. We’re all the bride of Christ. He is coming back and there will be a day when I am face to face with Jesus. A day where I am ready and prepared in bright and clean fine linen. He calls me his and that day the bridegrooms face will say it all. The waiting is over, there he is right in front of me. The king of all kings, my beautiful savior, my loving father will say to me, “Welcome Home”. I believe that I don’t have the words in my vocabulary to accurately describe what this moment will be like with the Lord, but I do know that this is a moment I desire and I will prepare and wait for the bridegroom.
