In the months and even days leading up to training camp I didn’t give it enough thought, preparation, or credit. What was I expecting? I really have no idea but I do know that what I experienced definitely wasn’t on my list of expectations.

We all know that no one is supposed to spill the beans on what really goes on at training camp (I now understand why) but that still doesn’t stop anyone from wondering. So here’s my inside scoop from the week.

Training Camp can be summed up in 2 words: Life Changing.

I’m usually an intense planner but my preparation the morning I left for training camp consisted of little more than stuffing a bunch of random crap into my 70 liter back pack, day pack, and purse. I arrived at the Atlanta airport Saturday morning to find myself staring into what seemed like hundreds of unfamiliar faces and not a clue of what I’d actually brought in those darn bags that I’d already grown tired of lugging around.

As we loaded up the buses and headed further east, I began to realize just how out of my element I was going to be that week. I had heard that the people surrounding me would soon become family, but in that moment I didn’t have a clue about how I would get to know everyone on my squad on that intimate of a level in the matter of one short week. Today as I sit here writing this I can tell you that I still don’t know everything about everyone on my squad, but I can tell you that I do consider every single one of them family.

As the week went on I was challenged to the hilt. Challenged to take God out of the box I’d kept him in for so many years, challenged to step out of my comfort zone to make the most of that week, challenge to rise above things that I didn’t feel like I was capable of, challenged to admit things, grieve things, and ultimately give it all to God. Not one thing in my life was left untouched. And for all of that (as uncomfortable as it was to go through) I give God praise.

If you came up and asked me if I enjoyed training camp I would flat out lie to your face and say “oh yeah it was a blast!” and then turn around to excuse my self as I hurl behind a tree. By far it was one of the hardest weeks of my life but after reaching the end I realized just how rewarding the week had really been.
