Welcome and Hello to the start of a series of blogs I would like to call…
‘Five Fantastic Facts on This Fine Friday’
In efforts to blog more and keep my family and friends updated back at home, I am going to try to start a blog series with five random facts about ministry, personal life, and anything else holding space in my brain. Depending on access to WiFi, I’m hoping to post them on … Fridays, surprise!
1. I’m working on my fear of blogging.
- Step One : drink coffee, even if it’s instant (99% of the time it’s instant and you know what? It’s not half bad anymore, shocker.)
- Step Two : dance and give yourself a pep talk (channel your inner Leslie Knope ALWAYS)
- Step Three : blog more
- Step Four : repeat step one
- Step Five : repeat step two (always)
2. It’s getting quite chilly here in Kosova! So cold that while on a prayer walk a few mornings ago, it started snowing on us! I have listened to the Kenny G Christmas album from beginning to end about 53 times since arriving here. I’m embracing the cold and wanting to feel some sort of holiday cheer in the chilly air before landing in AFRICA in 16 short days. 16 SHORT DAYS. It will definitely be odd celebrating Christmas in the heat.
FULL Kenny G Album HERE! Added bonus, look at that glorious face!
3. Even though our time here is Kosova is almost over, I have only participated in a few days of ministry. Unfortunately about a week after arriving here I picked up quite the sickness. On the morning of November 10th my roommate and teammate Emma told me that if I wasn’t feeling better when she arrived back from ministry that she was taking me to the hospital. Apparently, I squirmed around and loudly told her “no” like a three year old expressing extreme disinterest in eating cooked carrots for dinner. 8 Short hours later I was easily talked into heading to the hospital. I was in bed for the better part of a week and had to take an exciting trip to the American Hospital here. Some unexpected events that took place that night included but not limited to; my ministry host passing out and needing stitches in her mouth after I sprayed blood when having my blood drawn, an ultra-sound on my kidneys causing the doctor to stand mere centimeters from my stomach while examining my laparoscopic incision scars from my kidney surgeries, having an IV of vitamins, glucose, electrolytes, and more had me feeling better in the span of a few hours! It took me a few more days after that for me to regain my strength and acquire a few pounds back but I turned the corner and am on the mend! Luckily I have about a week here left to do ministry!
4. Yesterday we went to a Bear Sanctuary! People here in the Balkans will capture Bear Cubs and keep them in small cages in their restaurants or malls for locals to observe. This organization saves the bears and rehabilitates them. Providing health care and a safe place to rest and live after their years in hostile captivity. It was a beautiful space! There was even a bear named “Hana”!
5. My FINAL DEADLINE for fundraising is 12 short days away! (November 30th)
Only $1,778 left to go!
** BONUS FACT : While on a prayer walk this week a few teammates and I were praying outside of a Mosque. A few minutes later we were INVITED INSIDE. Uttering the name of JESUS out loud quietly in that space while praying will be a memory I will never forget.
Thanks for reading, I hope you have a great weekend my friends! Over and out, HB
