That’s right folks! Only 100 (ish) days until I launch and leave the USA for a year! I say ‘ish’ because I’m not sure if I will be leaving Atlanta for good on or after August 7th. We will learn of the official date at training camp… To be continued!
This is getting so real. So real that my heart starts to race thinking about the gear I still need to purchase, when I hear airplanes fly across the sky, and almost every night when I climb onto my oversized foam topped mattress. I’m trying desperately to think of ways to squeeze that hunk of love into my pack…. Again, to be continued.
As I continue to share about this mission trip, the question “How can I help?” has been asked many times. I decided to break this post down into an important list of numbers and how you can get involved.
14.6 – 14lbs 6oz. Thats how heavy my pack is ALREADY! One of the most frequent questions I hear revolves around packing and what in the world I’m taking. To be honest, I’m not totally sure yet! I am allowed one large backpacking pack and a daypack for the duration of the trip. The large pack can weigh up to 50lbs. (I’m going to do my best to keep it between 40-45lbs) In my 65L pack I have a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, sleeping bag liner, and rain jacket. Let’s just say I have a trip to REI in my near future! 30lbs 6oz (ish) left to go!
15 – 15 days for you to order a T- Shirt! Have you ever worn a comfort colors brand shirt? If you haven’t, you’re truly missing out. 16 – 16 days until my first deadline of $5,000 is due. I’m currently sitting around $7,500 and am amazed and humbled by the generosity shown to me! Thank you for helping me reach my first deadline early!
34 – 34 days until Swimming Lesson season begins! Teaching private swimming lessons has been my main source of summer income for the past 8 years! I would love to have a full summer of lessons as I prepare to leave in August. I currently have 16 spots left to fill, about half at the beginning of the summer and the other half during the last week of July. Live in the KC metro area and looking for some swim lessons? 41 – 41 DAYS UNTIL TRAINING CAMP. What’s training camp? Training Camp is when I’ll head to Gainesville, Georgia where I’ll meet my squad and a few other squads also launching in August. We will live out of our packs, camp using our gear (not the hunk of love I wish I could pack), we will learn about the countries we will be visiting, bond with our squad, be placed into our first teams, and encounter The Father! I get teary every time I think about training camp. I have been talking to my squad mates since being accepted in September and have so enjoyed getting to know them as best as I can via social media. Having the chance to be trusted and leaned on by people I’ve never met, lifting them up in daily prayer and trusting them with my heart as well has been so incredibly sweet and humbling. I cannot imagine the relationships that will be formed as we wrestle through the world together in joyous AND broken times! Tears WILL be flowing when I finally get to hug this new family of mine, consider this your warning I Squad!
