God is awesome.  Why?
Because He provided me a job?  Nope, He hasn’t done that.
Because He got me a car?  Nope, still without a vehicle.
Because He provided me $1,000 so I can fly around America and visit friends?  Nope, that hasn’t happened.

Because He made icicles.
Wait, what?  Icicles?  Really?

YES!  Icicles are AWESOME.  Seriously.  Have you ever spent an hour walking around your neighborhood staring at the icicles?  Being in awe of these ice sticks that form on rooftops, window sills, and tree branches?  Well, this has become a daily occurrence for me.  I am obsessed with icicles right now.  OBSESSED.  I took 80 photos during the past 2 weeks, over half of which are just icicles.  They fascinate me and leave me in awe.  There are icicles in Haverhill, MA right now hanging from rooftops that are taller then me!  Isn’t that ridiculous?!

It’s incredible that from far away all these icicles look the same but the closer you get the more unique they are.  You realize they come in all different shapes and sizes.  Also, it amazes me how they are constantly changing.  One day they could be as tall a me and the next day because of the sun or the weather they are half the size!  They are always evolving and always look a little different then they did before.  They are beautiful, you can almost see right through them!  Yet, they can also be dangerous.

I figured since I am so obsessed with these things right now God has must be trying to tell me something, right?

Well, it was just today that I realized what He was trying to tell me.  To DELIGHT in Him.  No matter the season, no matter the place, the time, the circumstances, to delight in Him.  To find JOY in Him.  No only when things are going well, not only when I am in the sunshine by the ocean in flip flops.  But when I am in the snow, the cold and my boots.  Its easy for me to delight in His presence when I am by the ocean, when I feel the warmth of the sun, when I hear the waves and can smell the sea.  Its natural for me to find joy and delight in those situations.  But, in a crazy, New England winter its hard sometimes.  But in those times when we are not in our natural delighting place we are still called to delight in Him, and to find our joy in Him.

And honestly, icicles have been a source of joy for me these past weeks.  Anytime I have been sad or lonely or just not joyful, I would look outside my window and see these crazy icicles and get so pumped!  It didn’t matter if it was storming outside or leaking in the house, I couldn’t get over how amazing these icicles were!   This is what God wants from us- to really just find Him wherever we are and to delight in Him and His creation and who He is.  So yeah, God is awesome!  Icicles are awesome!  You are awesome!  Awesome, awesome, awesome!!  Those are my thoughts.

Funny story about my obsession:  Everyday, if its not below zero or storming out, I try to go for a walk.  During one of my walks a little old Chinese woman comes up to me and says, “oh hello, what apartment are you?”
“Oh, ah, I don’t live over here.  I live in the complex around the bend.”
“Then why are you here?”
“Um, just going for a walk to look at icicles…..”
“You don’t have them over there?”
“Well, we do, I just wanted to see more.”
“Oh.”
I think she thought I was crazy.  But it made me laugh at myself when she walked away.  I mean, it is kinda weird that I enjoy walking around the area staring at icicles.

Go find an icicle and delight in Him!
