Meet Team Amala!
Hannah L, Annaka, Hannah H, Makita, Ashley, Alexa
When the six of us sat down with the Lord about our new team, several of us heard words of strength and power. God gave Makita the image of a hummingbird.
The hummingbird is one of the smallest birds in creation, but what it can do – move quickly in any direction, or fly long distances – is not limited by its size. A hummingbird is resilient and adapts quickly to change in environment. And despite their considerable capabilities, hummingbirds also represent joy, presence, and a general lightness of being.
We realized that the hummingbird perfectly captures our hopes for the team. With that in mind, we chose Amala, an Arabic name that means ‘beloved bird.’ We are women who are loved by the Father and we are ready to become a force to be reckoned with.
I’ll be honest – I didn’t know what to expect with team changes. But in the little bit (or a lot, with my Liora teammates) of time I have spent with these women over the last four months, I am excited about who God has uniquely created them to be, and what their many gifts will bring to our team.
Please be praying for Team Amala, as we dive back into community with a few new roommates, as our squad mentor Jeremy likes to say. We don’t want to revert back to our first month selves; we want to take what we have learned to pick up where we left off.
In a few days, we will travel to Pokhara to partner with Maya Ministries. We will mostly be working with women and children, particularly those affected by human trafficking. Please pray for our hearts to be ready, and for God’s love to overflow out of us in every interaction. We can’t wait to see what God does!
