For the past two weeks Team Impression has been doing street evangelism in the evenings. To say that we weren’t excited would be an understatement.  This was not in any of our comfort zones or skill sets.  We were really hoping to work with some kids or missionary families, but this was the ministry we were given so we decided to make the most of it.

The second time I went out with my translator, Ana, we came across the most beautiful home and garden and we struck up a conversation with Tanza, the owner.  As we talked she began making the most beautiful bouquet I had ever seen.  Her husband John came out and offered to give us a tour of their home, which is rare in Romania.  Once we had gotten the tour, Tanza made coffee and we talked for another hour or so.

John loves to tell stories and has some very interesting ones from the communist times.  For instance, when he was 15 years old the communists tortured him for 3 days, all because he was thought to be associated with an opposing political party.  While he was imprisoned he saw several men die from the torture.  Tanza told us stories about she battled skin cancer and how she grew up in a town in northern Romania.  One of my favorite stories was of how they met and married within 2 weeks; they have been married for 55 years.

Since we were already late to get back to the church we had to leave John and Tanza’s house in a hurry but they invited us back anytime so we could talk more.  To be continued…
