One of the lessons I am learning right now is what it means to be a child of God.
I love God and I “know” He loves me, but I want to understand what it means to be a child or daughter of God. What that means. What that looks like. Knowing deep in my core that He loves me and that is all that matters. To be able to trust Him completely and give Him every area of my life–giving Him full control. Ha, yeah. It’s a sloooooow process, but it is going. He is patient with me for some strange reason, but I am so thankful for that.
Something I am blessed with, though, is an earthly father who does love me so much. My dad has been such a rock and anchor to me the passed couple years. This week I was able to call him and just get wisdom from him about some of the things I have been learning.
Later that night I went up on the roof to talk with God just about some of the things I have been having a hard time working through. It wasn’t a deep conversation, but I had a realization. “If my earthly dad is so extremely loving and accepting, how much more are you?” It blew my mind.
I am so thankful I have an earthly father who is an example of how our heavenly Father is. It makes it that much easier.
The next day I was searching my Bible for something about spiritual gifts when I stumbled on wonderful chapter in Romans 8. If you haven’t read Romans 8–do it now. I have been going over that chapter a lot the passed couple days and it’s been feeding my soul exactly what it needs.
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
Verses 15-16
I have the ability to cry “ABBA FATHER!” to the God of the universe….
There is so much more I have highlighted, but another great passage is in verses 37-39.
“No, in all these things we are MORE than conquerers through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Meditate on that. I am. I am repeatedly having my mind blown and peace filling my mind and heart with this truth. Sometimes it is easy to forget God loves us, but He does.
For those of you who haven’t had a father or a great father in your life, I’m sorry. There is nothing I can really say to that, but know that you do have a heavenly Father that loves you.
