Being in the Dominican Republic has made me quite aware of the many different things in my life that i'm thankful for so I thought I'd give you a small little list of some of them…
-
Toilets that you can flush the toilet paper down. Yes, we have to throw our used toilet paper into a trash can. Each time. Whether it’s poop filled or not. Delightful.

- Showers that aren’t 32 degrees and come from a bucket.
- People who don’t stare constantly. I swear sometimes I feel like I’m the exhibit in a zoo because people just stare with their mouths hanging open at a white person.
-
My family. I miss them. Please pray for that.

- Chocolate!! It’s so sparse around here!
- Berries. Most Dominican’s have never even tried a blueberry. My little sister, Rachel, would go insane.
- Not being hissed at.
- Corn flakes. Pretty sure I would starve out here without them. The Dominican's like their bread.
- Having consistent electricity. It’s quite terrifying when you’re sitting on the toilet and you’re already scared that spiders are all around you and then the stinking lights go out. And you start imagining spiders crawling up your leg and you push your pee out as quick as you can so you can skeech out of there.
- Bug spray. I would be one big mosquito bite without it
- Wearing tank tops and shorts in public and people not thinking you’re a harlot. My body sweats in places I never knew possible after wearing pants outside here.
- Being able to walk around my house in my bra and underwear. The downfalls of having a boy/girl team…
- Cheese. Enough said.
-
The love and joy of the Dominican people.

-
God having enough faith in me to call me on this mission trip.

Yes, I might be deprived of chocolate and cheese and have to brush my teeth in a bathroom with a trash can full of poop stained toilet paper but I wouldn’t change being here for the world. If week 2 has already made me thankful for so much, I can’t imagine what I’m going to be like at month 11.
