Last month was my 6th month on The World Race. Nepal came and went but has left me thinking in overdrive. My thoughts are constantly pulled back to that crazy, insane, unexpected, confusing and wonderful month. I have no deep or profound words to write about my month in Nepal. Anything I try and write doesn’t seem to measure up… but all the same I want to share my memories and my month with you. Have grace with me, this is a mere overview of what happened during month 6. I witnessed first hand demons, healings, baptisms and hospitals; I cant possibly put into words the effects all of these events have had on me. I find myself starting to believe things I’ve previously dismissed, growing in ways I never expected to and loving people in a way I never thought possible. As I take a deep breath after what seems like the craziest month of my life I have to laugh… What in the Hello-kitty did I get myself into…
Days of Nepal:
- Got lost in a taxi on the way to ministry
- Saw Squad Leader Joe accidentally strip during orientation meeting
- Painted a children’s center
- Played soccer with street kids
- Packed for my first trek
- Prayed over land for our pastors new church
- Pooped in a squatty potty
- Threw up magenta pink vomit
- Healed a man’s wrist – a visible healing I had to see to believe
- Bathed in a river in a valley of Nepal
- Peed on myself after being told to pee in a shower by the pastor
- Went on a 3 hour hike in the Himalayas without water
- Cast a demon out of an old woman. Pastor literally slapped the demon out of her…
- Mistakenly ordered over 200 momo’s from local restaurant (similar to pot stickers). Also learned that if you ingest local cuisine at 8pm, it PROMPTLY comes out at 4am whether you are prepared for it or not. (don’t worry, I made it to the appropriate facilities just in time.. barely…)
- Trekked 9 hours through the Annapurna Mountain Range
- Got baptized
- “4 hour bus ride” turned into a 7 hour journey down a mountain and slept in a church we were asked to only whisper in
- Got caught outside in a hailstorm
- Got my nose re-pierced
- “4 hour bus ride” turned into an 11 hour journey back to Kathmandu, got sick… again…
- Balanced teams budget after an entire month of no internet or records
- Spent the day in a lovely cafe writing and making videos
- Woke up sick again, and spent the whole day in bed
- Woke up in extreme pain, something was wrong
- Got rushed to the ER and had blood work, X-Ray, ultrasound, and CT scan. Also had an emergency appendectomy scheduled, then cancelled. Had IV’s 1, 2, and 3 put it.
- Had an allergic reaction to two antibiotics and had IV 4 put in.
- Had endoscopy and colonoscopy in Nepal. Also, IV 5 was put in.
- Realized my body will always fail me. Always has, always will; but the Holy Spirit within me never will. My spirit will never weaken or leave me and if during times of pain or suffering I can turn inward, it makes things so much more bearable.
- March 1st – released from the hospital
- March 2nd – went to a biopsy appointment and received no results
- March 3rd – Had an incredible dinner with Jay and Denise Heesch
- March 4th – An airplane went off the runway and blocked the only international runway in the country, so my flight was cancelled and Air India put us up in a super nice hotel with hot showers, nice beds and free food!
- March 5th – Realized I was stranded for another night in Nepal, found another cheap hostel
- March 6th- Stood in line for 6 hours at Air India office to try to, along with 22,000 other stranded people, get a flight out of the country.
- March 7th – Enjoyed a lazy day in Nepal complete with endless episodes of Friends and a dinner with Beth Milam and Sean Champ Smith
- March 8th – Ate at The Lazy Gringo, the best Mexican restaurant in Nepal
- March 9th – Finally flew to India
Whewww… INSANITY….. but I loved every minute of it!!!
